Etymology: "Nibs" is the plural of "nib," the pointed metal tip of a pen. "Nib" descends from the Old English "nebb," meaning beak or bill, and the sense of a sharp point came from that idea of a projecting beak. Its close relative "neb," still used for a bird's beak, shows the same root. The pen-tip sense is a narrowing of that older meaning of a pointed projection.
