Etymology: Muslim is an English word of Arabic origin, and "muslimize" is simply that noun turned into a verb by adding the suffix "-ize". That suffix has a long pedigree of its own: it passed from Ancient Greek, where "-izein" formed verbs meaning "to make into" or "to behave like", through Late Latin "-izare" and Old French "-iser" before reaching Middle English as "-isen". Its use in English as a productive tool for coining new verbs, such as "modernize" or "standardize", is what makes a formation like this possible. The result is a plain, transparent coinage: "muslimize" means to make someone a Muslim, or to bring a people, place or institution under Islamic faith or law. Because it is built directly from the noun with no intermediate stage, its meaning follows straightforwardly from the parts. Its sense is also tied to the conversion-focused usage the verb form was created to express.
