Definitions
- Able to be turned into income or profit, such as a website, video, or piece of content that can generate earnings
- Capable of producing revenue through sales, advertising, or fees, making it possible to earn money from something
- Suitable for generating financial return, so that its audience, product, or asset can be used to bring in cash
Etymology: "Monetizable" is "monetize" with the suffix "-able" attached. "Monetize" turns money into a verb, and "-able" means "capable of being" that thing. So a monetizable asset is one that can be turned into money. The "-able" ending has a long path behind it: it descends from Latin "-abilis" (and the related "-ābilis"), passed through Old French "-able," and entered English in Middle English. Its ancestors reach back to a Proto-Italic form and ultimately to an Indo-European root meaning something like "to take hold of," which is why the suffix has spread so widely across English.
