Definitions

  1. A very short span of time, as in asking someone to wait a bit ; a growth of facial hair on the upper lip ; additional or a greater amount, often written informally as an abbreviation of more
  2. An informal word for a brief instant ; the hair grown above the upper lip, usually called a moustache ; an informal shortening of more, meaning a greater quantity or degree
  3. A little while, as in hang on a sec ; facial hair grown on the upper lip, commonly known as a moustache ; a colloquial form meaning a further amount or a larger degree of something

Etymology: Saying "half a mo" is a clipping of "moment." English speakers cut the longer word down to its first syllable, much as "lab" comes from "laboratory." "Moment" entered English from Old French, ultimately from Latin "momentum," meaning movement, and it came to mean a very brief span of time. This spelling is shared with a different word, "mo," meaning "more." That one is a comparative form from Middle English and is related to Swedish "mer." The two are unrelated, and they only look alike by coincidence.
