Etymology: "Misconveys" is the third-person singular present form of "misconvey," a verb meaning to pass on a message so that it arrives distorted or misunderstood. The verb is formed from the prefix "mis-," meaning wrongly or badly, attached to "convey," which comes from Latin "convehere," to carry together or carry along. Convey originally meant to transport goods or people from one place to another, and its sense of carrying ideas from one mind to another developed later. Misconvey therefore preserves that physical image of carrying: the message is picked up and set down in the wrong shape.
