Etymology: "Misassembles" is the third-person singular present form of "misassemble," a verb meaning to put together wrongly. The verb is built from the prefix "mis-," which carries the sense of wrongly or badly, attached to "assemble." That base comes from Old French "assembler," meaning to bring together, which in turn descends from the Latin "assimulare" and "simul," meaning "at the same time" or "together," so the core idea of gathering things in one place runs through the whole word. The prefix does the real work here. "Mis-" has been attached to English verbs for centuries to signal error, so "misassemble" simply reverses the act of assembling: where assembling joins parts into a whole, misassembling joins them into the wrong whole, or joins them in the wrong order. The combination is transparent, which is why it is easy to form and easy to understand without a dictionary.
