Etymology: The word "minges" is simply the plural of "minge," and it is the plural form that most readers meet in dictionaries and slang lists. The singular "minge" is the more basic item, and its origin is less settled than many references suggest. The most striking candidate traces it to Romani, where "minʒ" means "female genitals," and from there into Angloromani "mintš." The Romani word is probably linked to Old Armenian "mēǰ," meaning "middle" or "midst," which is also the source of the Latin-derived "medius," so the two are doublets in a rather unexpected family. A second proposal connects it to the Latin "mingere," "to urinate," with the organ named after an associated function, perhaps ironically or as a euphemism. A third suggests a corruption of "midge," though that link is weaker. Another theory, from Middle English "mingen" or "mengen" and Old English "mengan" ("to mix"), is a different word entirely and does not explain the sexual sense.
