Mesher
Part of speech: noun
Definitions

- An individual involved in producing mesh fabric or operating devices that create interconnected networks or mesh patterns
Etymology: A mesher was simply someone who worked on net fabric, and the word is built from "mesh" plus the agent suffix "-er." Strikingly, "mesh" originally named the holes rather than the material around them. The Old English "max" meant a net, and from it came the sense of the open spaces between a net's threads. The name for the gaps came to stand for the whole fabric, which is why a mesher's craft was defined by the openings. The "-er" ending does the same job it does in "baker" or "fisher," turning an activity into a person who performs it. Other "mesh" words followed the same pattern of meaning the openings, so a mesher was, literally, someone who made holes into a usable net.
