Etymology: The surprising part is that the word is a blend of two unrelated words, "kiss" and "telegram." A telegram was a message sent by telegraph and delivered on paper, and the kissogram trades on that old-fashioned delivery: a performer arrives at a party, office or birthday with a surprise kiss in place of a written message. Joining the two words produced a playful name for a service that is, in effect, a telegram carried in person. "Kissagram" is an alternative spelling of the same word, and the two forms are used interchangeably. Both spellings keep the same blend, so the word reads as a joke on the delivery service rather than on the kiss alone.
