  2. Any plane polygon that has exactly one thousand edges joined end to end
  3. A geometric shape formed by a thousand line segments meeting at vertices

Etymology: A kilogon is a polygon with a thousand sides, and the name is built in the most transparent way possible: "kilo-" from Greek "khilioi," meaning "thousand," joined to "-gon," the Greek-derived ending for a shape with angles, as in "pentagon" or "hexagon." Each part is a plain numerical or geometric label, so the word needs little explanation beyond its parts. The same system explains its neighbours in the geometry classroom. Polygons are named by counting their sides in Greek, so a three-sided figure is a triangle and a six-sided one a hexagon, and a thousand-sided figure takes the prefix for a thousand. The "kilo-" in kilogon is the same prefix that appears in kilometre and kilogram, where it multiplies a unit by one thousand.
