Islamify

Part of speech: verb

Definitions

  1. To cause something to become Islamic in nature, character, or practice
  2. To convert or transform something into an Islamic form or to bring it under Islamic influence
  3. To make something conform to Islamic principles, beliefs, or cultural and religious standards

Etymology: "Islam" comes from Arabic "islām," meaning "submission," and shares a root with "salām" (peace) and "muslim," one who submits. The religion's name thus rests on an idea of surrendering to God rather than on a label applied from outside. "-ify" is a suffix English took through Old French "-ifier" from Latin "-ficare," which comes from "facere," "to make." Attaching it to "Islam" produces a verb meaning to make something Islamic or to bring people into Islam. The verb is formed in English from the noun, so its meaning depends on that noun's sense and on the suffix's sense of making or causing.
