Etymology: Introduce comes from Latin "introducere," meaning "to lead in" or "to bring inside," built from "intro" ("inward") and "ducere" ("to lead"). The same "ducere" gives English "duke," "conduct," and "produce," so the word is closely related to a whole family of leading and guiding verbs. The original sense was physical: to lead someone or something into a place. Over time the meaning moved from leading a person through a doorway to leading one person toward another, which is the sense of making two people acquainted. Later it extended to bringing new things into use, so a company might introduce a product or a government a law.
