Etymology: "Hubbed" is simply the past tense and past participle of the verb "hub," so its story is really the story of "hub" with the regular "-ed" ending added. The noun "hub" is the older word, referring to the central part of a wheel, the piece that the spokes radiate from and that turns on the axle. That image of a central point with lines running out to it or from it is what later made the word useful for airports, transport networks and offices. The verb sense, meaning to make something a central point through which many connections pass, grew out of that noun. Someone who hubs a system arranges it so that traffic, information or people converge on one place and fan out again from there.
