Etymology: "Hindest" is the superlative of "hind," the adjective meaning "at the back" or "rear," as in a horse's hind legs. Its base is the comparative "hinder," which in Old English already meant "further back," and the superlative grew from that. The older superlative in English is "hindmost," which comes from Old English "hindema," a form built on the same root. "Hindmost" won out in ordinary use, so "hindest" is now rare and mostly appears in dialect or deliberate wordplay. Where "hind" ultimately comes from is uncertain.
Synonyms: hindmost, rearmost
