Etymology: "Globetrots" is the third-person singular present form of "globetrot," which is built from "globe" and "trot." The verb "trot" originally described a horse's gait, a brisk, rhythmic pace, and it was later extended to people hurrying along on foot. Joining it to "globe" produced a playful image of someone quickly moving around the whole world. The "globe" half carries the sense of the entire planet, so the compound stretches a simple gait across the whole earth. Its meaning shifted from literal hurried walking to something more like repeated, leisurely or purposeful travel across many countries.
