Etymology: The glengarry is a brimmed-less, short-crowned cap with two ribbons hanging down at the back, and the plural simply names several of them. The name comes from Glengarry, a glen in the Scottish Highlands, in the former county of Inverness-shire and now part of the Highland council area, and the cap took its name from that place. Its origin is a matter of place rather than person: the cap is named after the glen, not after an individual who wore or designed it. Because "glengarry" is a regular noun, its plural adds only the usual "-s", so "glengarries" follows the standard English pattern for nouns ending in "-y" after a consonant, where the "y" changes to "ie" before the ending.
