Fuls
Part of speech: noun
Definitions
- The quantity that a container, spoon or similar vessel can hold when it is completely filled
- As much as a particular receptacle can contain, used as a unit when measuring out an amount
- A measure equal to the full capacity of a vessel, often counted in multiples such as spoonfuls
Etymology: "Fuls" is the plural of "ful," a noun for the amount a container holds, as in "two fuls of flour." The noun grew from the Old English adjective "full," which meant filled or having as much as it can hold, and "ful" is the shortened form used when the word works as a measure. Modern writers more often use compounds such as "spoonfuls," or the spelling "fulls," so "fuls" is the less common of the forms.
