Fulfiler

Definitions

  1. A person or entity that carries out, completes, or brings to realization something promised or required
  2. Someone who fulfills an obligation, order, or commitment by performing the necessary actions to completion
  3. An agent that satisfies a need, delivers on a promise, or accomplishes a desired outcome or task

Etymology: "Fulfiler" is a plain English formation: the verb "fulfil" plus the agent suffix "-er," meaning one who fulfils. It is a less common spelling of "fulfiller," which follows the same pattern. Both forms show the doubled "l" that English often keeps before a suffix in words ending in a single "l" after a stressed vowel-less syllable, so the spelling varies between dictionaries and writers. "Fulfil" itself is built from two native English parts. "Ful" is the adjective "full," and "fill" comes from the Old English "fyllan," to fill. Together they describe making something full, or fully carrying something out. The sense of completing a promise or prophecy grew out of that idea of bringing something to its full extent. Since "fulfil" is older than the suffix, the agent noun simply names someone who performs that action.
