Etymology: "Fueller" is a straightforward formation: the noun "fuel" with the agent suffix "-er", which turns a verb or noun into a word for someone or something that performs an action. A fueller is therefore one who supplies fuel, whether a person filling up aircraft or ships, or a company or vehicle doing the same job. The spelling with a double "l" is the British variant, and "fueler" with one "l" is the American form. The base word "fuel" has a much older lineage. It descends from Old French "feuaille" (a hearth or fire), itself from Late Latin "focale," meaning a fireplace, from Latin "focus," hearth. So the word's original sense was the fire itself, and the material we burn came to be named after the burning. The suffix is the only part added in English.
