Etymology: "Foresightless" is a plain English compound, built from "foresight" and the suffix "-less". "Foresight" itself is an older formation, combining "fore-", meaning "before" or "in front", with "sight" in the sense of seeing or perceiving. The idea behind the whole word is therefore literally a lack of seeing ahead. The suffix "-less" has a long history in English, descending from Old English "lēas", meaning "free from" or "lacking". Attached to a noun, it produces an adjective meaning "without" that noun, so "hopeless" lacks hope and "careless" lacks care. Applying it to "foresight" gives a word describing someone or something that lacks the capacity to anticipate what is coming.
