Etymology: In Middle English, "fashion" meant the shape or making of a thing, or the manner in which something was done, rather than what is currently in vogue. That older sense survives in phrases like "after a fashion," meaning in some manner but not perfectly. The word came into English from Old French "façon," which traces back to Latin "factio," a making or doing, from "facere," to make. The sense of changing styles of dress took shape later. "Fashionality" is a much newer and rarer formation. It joins "fashion" to the suffix "-ality," which comes through French "-alité" from Latin "-alitas" and turns adjectives into abstract nouns, as in "personality" and "formality." It is best treated as a modern coinage that extends "fashion" into the idea of a personal, recognisable style.
