Farsides
Part of speech: noun
Definitions
- The opposite or farthest side of an object or area, often referring to the side not immediately visible; metaphorically, it can indicate an extreme or distant viewpoint or aspect
- The most distant boundary or portion on the other side beyond the near or front side, used literally in spatial contexts or figuratively in discussions of perspectives or interpretations
- The area or side that lies at the greatest distance away from a reference point, applicable to physical locations as well as abstract notions of differing standpoints or contrasts
Etymology: "Farsides" is the plural of "farside," a noun meaning far-away parts. The singular is a compound of "far" and "side," which is about as plain as English compounding gets: the word describes the side of something that lies at a distance from the observer. Its most familiar use is in astronomy, where the farside of the Moon is the hemisphere that never faces Earth, and "farsides" simply extends that idea to several such regions at once.
Synonyms: far sides, extremities, edges
