Etymology: "Excreters" is simply the plural of "excreter", a noun for a living creature that expels waste from its body. The noun is formed from "excrete" with the suffix "-er", which marks a person or thing that performs an action, so an excreter is literally one that excretes. The verb "excrete" itself comes from Latin "excernere", meaning "to separate out" or "sift out", built from "ex-" ("out") and "cernere" ("to sift" or "separate"). The root sense of sifting out what does not belong is the same idea that the body's waste-removal processes carry.
