Etymology: "Examinates" is simply the plural of "examinate," a noun meaning a person who is being examined or questioned, such as a candidate under test. The plural is formed in the regular way, by adding "s" to the singular. The singular "examinate" comes from Latin "exāminātus," the past participle of "exāminō," which meant to weigh or test something, from which the English verb "examine" also descends. English did not take the noun straight from Latin, though. It was back-formed from "examination," in which the "-ation" ending was stripped away, leaving "examinate" as if it were the root of the longer word.
