Etymology: "Entune" is an English verb built from the prefix "en-", meaning "in" or "into", and "tune". Its literal sense is to put something into tune, and it was used both for tuning instruments and, more loosely, for uttering a sound or song with the right pitch. The same prefix appears in "enlist", "enrich" and "encase", each adding the idea of putting something into a state or place. Its closest relative is "intone", which comes from Latin "intonare", meaning to thunder or sound out, formed from "in-" and "tonare". Both words share the idea of giving sound a definite pitch, but they reached English by different routes.
