Etymology: "Enlargements" is the plural of "enlargement," a noun for an enlarged copy of a photograph, as well as the act of making something bigger. The noun is built from "enlarge" and the suffix "-ment," which reaches English through Middle English from Old French "-ment," itself descended from Latin "-mentum." That Latin suffix turned verbs into nouns naming an action or its result, which is why "enlargement" can name both the process of making something larger and the larger print that results. The plural simply adds the usual "-s" for more than one such print.
