  3. An English masculine forename derived from Darrell, borne by many men in North America and Britain

Etymology: Daryl is a spelling variant of Darrell, a name that began as a surname. It is generally traced to Airel, a village in Normandy, and the Old French form "d'Airel" meant "of Airel." The surname probably reached England with Norman settlers and was later spelled "Darel" or "Darrell" in English records. Its use as a first name is much more recent. It became common in the twentieth century, especially in the United States, where "Daryl" and "Darrell" both spread widely. The musician Daryl Hall and the television character Daryl Dixon in "The Walking Dead" have done a great deal to keep the spelling familiar.
