Etymology: "Cybercast" is a plain compound: "cyber-", the combining form drawn from "cybernetics" and the internet sense of "cyberspace", joined to "broadcast". The word therefore carries the older sense of broadcasting, scattering material outward from a single source to many receivers, and adds the networked, online setting that "cyber-" supplies. The sense of the compound is what makes it useful. Radio and television broadcasts reached audiences at fixed times and were gone once aired, whereas material sent over online networks can be watched live or stored and played back later. The term names that combined mode of delivery, and it is used both as a noun for the transmission and as a verb for the act of transmitting.
