Etymology: "Culters" is the plural of "culter," an older spelling of "coulter," the sharp iron blade fixed in front of a plough's share to slice through the soil ahead of it. The word comes from Latin "culter," which meant "knife" or "ploughshare," and it reached English early enough that Old English speakers were already using it for the farm tool. The plural "culters" simply means more than one such blade.
