Etymology: Cucking is a clipped form of "cuck," which is itself short for cuckold, the old term for a man whose wife had been unfaithful. Cuckold arrived in English as the Middle English "cokewold," and "cuckquean," the female equivalent, is also in the picture. A separate thread runs through the cucking stool, a chair in which scolds and other offenders were publicly punished. "Cuck" was back-formed from that name, so the verb's roots lie in the punishment device, not the cuckold. The most recent sense, a weakling or race traitor, apparently took shape on 4chan in 2014 and reached Reddit soon after.
