Etymology: Countach is the name of a Lamborghini sports car, and the story behind it is in Piedmontese dialect rather than Italian. The word is an exclamation of astonishment, roughly "wow" or "good heavens," that is common in Piedmont, the region around Turin where Lamborghini had its design roots. Nuccio Bertone's design house and the Lamborghini engineers working on the car's styling were reportedly struck by the exclamation, and Lamborghini adopted it as the model name when the car appeared in 1971 (the prototype was shown in 1971 and the production model followed in 1974). Lamborghini's cars were traditionally named after bulls and fighting bulls, so the choice broke the pattern. Using a dialect exclamation of amazement as a product name suited a car meant to make people stop and stare.
