Copyer
Part of speech: noun
Definitions
- One who makes a reproduction of a document, text, or image, or a machine that does so
- Someone or something that produces duplicates of an original work or item
- A person or machine that reproduces an existing piece of writing, art, or material
Etymology: "Copyer" is a plain agent-forming compound: the noun "copy" with the suffix "-er," which marks a person or thing that performs an action. Someone who copies is a copyer, and so is a machine built to copy, though in practice the word is seldom needed. The more familiar agent noun "copier" beats it in ordinary use, and the spelling "copyer" tends to appear where a writer is deliberately keeping the form that follows the base word "copy" directly.
