Etymology: "Calendarizing" is the present participle of "calendarize," a verb built from "calendar" and the suffix "-ize." The base noun "calendar" comes from Latin "kalendarium," an account book recording debts due on the calends, the first day of each Roman month. That link to money is the oddity at the heart of the family: a word for a ledger of dues eventually became the name for the chart of days, weeks and months we hang on walls. The suffix "-ize," from Greek "-izein," turns a noun into a verb meaning to make, put into, or treat in a certain way. So "to calendarize" means to arrange something according to a calendar, and to calendarize an activity means fixing it to particular dates. Because the suffix is so productive, it attaches to many nouns in this way, and "calendarize" is simply one of the newer members of that group.
