  3. A defunct American carmaker of the 1970s whose best-known model was the SV-1 sports car

Etymology: Bricklin is a surname, and the word is a brand name taken from the man who founded the company. Malcolm Bricklin, an American entrepreneur, put his name on the Bricklin SV-1, a sports car with gull-wing doors. The name did not describe the car or its material. It simply identified the person behind it, which is how many eponymous car names came about. The company was short-lived. Production took place in Saint John, New Brunswick, in Canada, and the venture struggled financially. The name survives mainly as a brand and a footnote in automotive history, and the word has no other meaning in English.
