Etymology: "Blocklists" is the plural of "blocklist," a compound formed from "block" and "list." Joined together, they describe a catalogue of entries that are kept out. The plural form simply applies the usual English rule for count nouns, so a single list of barred senders or addresses becomes several such lists when they are maintained separately. The compound itself is a modern formation, built from transparent parts rather than inherited from an older term, so its meaning follows directly from the two elements: a list used to block.
