Etymology: "Biometrician" is built from "biometric" with the suffix "-ian," which marks a person who practises or specialises in something. A biometrician is therefore someone who works in biometrics, the measurement and statistical analysis of biological data. The base word "biometric" combines Greek "bios," meaning life, with "metron," meaning measure. Its "-ic" ending makes it an adjective meaning relating to such measurement, and English speakers later turned it into a noun, "biometrics," for the field itself. Adding "-ian" then gave a name for the person doing that work.
