Etymology: The word "beezers" is the plural of "beezer," a noun that by the 1910s was slang for "nose" and was later used for things that were excellent. The Scots word "beeser" or "beezer" (of unknown origin) was borrowed into English at about that time, and first appeared in American boxing slang in 1908, where it meant a person's nose or head. That early sense, a blow to the face or the head, gave rise to a playful wider use for anything striking, and eventually for anything notably fine. The sense of excellence seems to have developed from the older meaning of a striking object or person, so that something that "hit you" was impressive. The adjective "beezer," meaning very good, was formed from the noun, and the plural "beezers" carries the same informal approval. Its origin is uncertain, and an earlier theory linking it to Mandarin "bízi" ("nose") is considered unlikely given when the word first appeared.
