Etymology: "Balling" is simply "ball" with the suffix "-ing" attached, and its two senses both grow out of the older noun. The second, slang sense for sexual activity has a more roundabout route: it draws on the same noun, but the connection is informal and the slang meaning is best treated as a separate colloquial development rather than a literal extension of the sphere image.
