Part of speech: noun

Definitions

  1. Austenasia is a proper name for a rare or fictional region, not a common word with a settled everyday meaning
  2. The term Austenasia names an obscure or invented territory and is used only as a proper noun for a place
  3. Austenasia is a rarely used place name, most often encountered as the name of an imagined or little-known region

Etymology: Austenasia is a micronation, a self-declared state with no international recognition, that Jonathan Austen declared on 20 September 2008. Its name is built on his surname, Austen, an English family name, and the country is named for its ruling house, the Austen dynasty. The ending "-ia" is the suffix conventionally used to form country names. The "-as-" in the middle may have been added by analogy with names such as Australasia, Eurasia and Malaysia. The origin of the surname Austen itself is uncertain.
