Etymology: Photography was barely a decade old when people began pointing cameras at the night sky, and the word for the result was assembled from two Greek stems. "Astro-" comes from the Greek "astron", a star, which descends from the older "astēr"; "photo-" comes from "phōs", meaning light, and "graph" from "graphein", to write or draw. Put together, the pieces describe light-writing about the stars. The word itself is a modern compound, formed in English from "astro-" and "photograph". Its plural, "astrophotographs", is simply the count form of the noun, naming more than one such image. The Greek roots were old, but the combination was made in English in the age of the camera, not in antiquity.
