Etymology: "Annualised" is the past tense and past participle of "annualise", a verb formed in English from the adjective "annual" plus the suffix "-ise". The adjective traces back through Middle French "annuel" and Anglo-Norman "anuel" to Latin "annuālis", meaning yearly, itself built on "annus", "year". The suffix comes from Greek "-izein", which Latin took up as "-izāre" and which passed into English through Middle French "-iser" and Middle English "-isen". Because the verb is a plain English formation, its history is essentially the history of its two parts joined together. Its meaning follows the adjective directly: to make something annual, or to express or calculate a figure as a yearly amount. Financial and statistical writing uses it most often, as when a monthly rate is converted into an annualised rate.
