Anhyzer
Part of speech: noun
Definitions
- A flying disc thrown with the leading edge tilted away from the direction of flight, causing it to curve in the opposite direction to the throw
- A disc golf or frisbee throw executed with the disc angled so its edge tips away from the intended flight path, making it fade away from the thrower
- A flying disc delivery where the top of the disc leans outward from the throwing motion, creating a curve that opposes the natural direction of the throw
Etymology: Anhyzer is a term from disc golf and frisbee throwing, describing a flight path that curves away from the thrower's dominant hand. The word is built from "an-" and "hyzer," and the "hyzer" half is the one that matters here: a hyzer throw is the opposite motion, a disc released so that it curves toward the throwing side and then drifts back. Anhyzer simply reverses that, so the disc banks outward, away from the thrower. The prefix "an-" is the one used to mean "reverse" or "opposite" in ordinary English words, so the term is a deliberate pairing rather than a separate root. Players needed a name for each of the two main banking shots, and they built the second from the first.
