Etymology: Angloromani is a plain compound: "Anglo-" (from "Anglus," the Latin name for the English, which gave English its "Angle" element) joined to "Romani," the name of the Romani language. The result names a mixed form of Romani that has absorbed heavy English influence and is spoken by Romani communities in Britain. Because the formation is so transparent, the interest lies less in an invented story than in what the two halves reveal together: one part names a people's language, the other the nation whose vocabulary has flowed into it. The term is used both as a noun for the language itself and as an adjective for the people, culture and traditions associated with those English-speaking Romani.
