Administrativizes
Part of speech: verb
Definitions
- The process of transforming something into a structured or bureaucratic framework
- Implementing administrative principles to organize or regulate an entity
- The act of formalizing operations or activities through established administrative protocols
Etymology: Beneath this verb is a Latin word for service. "Administrare" joined "ad-" to "ministrare," meaning to serve, from "minister," a servant or attendant. The root sense is therefore tending to someone's affairs rather than commanding them. The verb is built in two steps. "Administrative" adds the suffix "-ive" to that stem, and "-ize" is added on top. That ending comes from Greek "-izein," which Latin adopted as "-izare," and English uses it to turn adjectives and nouns into verbs meaning to make or become something, as in "modernize" or "standardize." To administrativize something is to make it administrative: to turn it into a system of offices, forms, and officials.
